The Emergence of Stimulus-Response Associations from Neural Activation Fields: Dynamic Field Theory

چکیده
Dynamic Field Theory is based on spatially continuous representations of parameter space and provides a mathematical framework to study the metric structure of representations. We review evidence for such metric structure and provide a Dynamic Field Theory of stimulusresponse association to account for effects caused by the metric structure of representations such as the distance effect and the interaction of the Hick and Hyman effects with stimulus metrics. We show how the integration of different sources of information contributes to stimulusresponse association by providing a new model of the manual Stroop effect.

Dynamic field theory of movement preparation.
A theoretical framework for understanding movement preparation is proposed. Movement parameters are represented by activation fields, distributions of activation defined over metric spaces. The fields evolve under the influence of various sources of localized input, representing information about upcoming movements. Localized patterns of activation self-stabilize through cooperative and competi...
متن کاملReceptive Fields without Spike-Triggering
Stimulus selectivity of sensory neurons is often characterized by estimating their receptive field properties such as orientation selectivity. Receptive fields are usually derived from the mean (or covariance) of the spike-triggered stimulus ensemble. This approach treats each spike as an independent message but does not take into account that information might be conveyed through patterns of n...
متن کاملActivation-Induced Apoptosis in T cells: Effect of Age and Caloric Restriction
We have previously shown that the proliferative response of T cells to antigenic or mitogenic stimulus decreased with age and that caloric resection (CR) attenuated the age-related decline in proliferation and IL-2 expression. Because activation-induced apoptosis is known to regulate cell proliferation and eliminate the high number of activated cells during an immune response, it was of interes...
متن کاملDynamic response determination of viscoelastic annular plates using FSDT – perturbation approach
In this paper, the transient response of a viscoelastic annular plate which has time-dependent properties is determined mathematically under dynamic transverse load. The axisymmetric conditions are considered in the problem. The viscoelastic properties obey the standard linear solid model in shear and the bulk behavior in elastic. The equations of motion are extracted using Hamilton’s principle...
متن کاملReceptive Field Encoding Model for Dynamic Natural Vision
Introduction: Encoding models are used to predict human brain activity in response to sensory stimuli. The purpose of these models is to explain how sensory information represent in the brain. Convolutional neural networks trained by images are capable of encoding magnetic resonance imaging data of humans viewing natural images. Considering the hemodynamic response function, these networks are ...
